Tackling One Idea At A Time

I easily get frustrated as to where I want my photography to be.  And not knowing that misdirects me as to what my next purchase should be!  If I get into portrait photography I would need to acquire soft boxes, speed lites, muslins, and of course a “portrait” lens, approximately $2500 in total!  If I lean toward landscape or nature photography, I would basically need just a new lens, 1 for each.  Although I love my 24-105mm it obviously only goes to 24mm!  What I would want to purchase would be the 10-22mm and that one costs about $650 (for the one I want, but Im thinking of settling for the cheaper one for now).  Should I lean toward Nature Photography, the lens I would want to get would be the 400mm f/4, which is around $2,200; of course the MacDaddy is around $10K!!!  Still my point is that its going to take quite the pretty pennyies to be where I want to be.

But the one thing that really frustrates me is picking myself up, dusting myself off and trying to figure out how to get to where I want to be!  I brainstorm a lot! What am i doing wrong?  What is my next step?  Should I throwaway the pipe dream and do it as a hobby?

My fiances’ uncle does his photography for pleasure which I admire.  He really doesn’t have a job that is making him rich but he’s living life on his own terms.  He takes any of his cameras with him at all times and shoots when to moment presents itself.  When the aura borealis is present he’ll grab his camera, even in the middle of the night and go set up his tripod!  He’ll take shots of people, get their address and print out a copy for that person and mail it to them.  Having said that, Id have to set myself up with a nice printer too!

I think Ill go grab a cheap wide angle lens and take photos until I decide what I want to do!
